Happy Halloween!

I hope everyone had a spooktacular Halloween. I know we sure did!

Our festivities started out on Friday when we took McKenzie trick-or-treating at Micah's work. Everyone there loved her costume and she was very good about saying, "Please!" and "Thank you!"

She got to hang out with her friend David and they were so cute in their matching costumes! (And that was not planned, by the way :)

Simba and Nala ;)

Then on Saturday we had our annual Bate Family Halloween party. Unfortunately, Mom, Dad and Alyson weren't able to make it this year because Allie had a color guard competition that day. We sure missed you guys!

The theme this year was "toys." There were some pretty great costumes, but I didn't get very many pics so send them my way if you've got them!

McKenzie went as Minnie Mouse. Here's some from home before the party:

(She was doing a little jig in the doorway at the time haha)

Here's her singing "You've Got a Friend In Me" but she didn't want me to sing with her this time...

Here's Grandma and Grandpa Bate with all their great-grandkids. Isaac and Carly were the sheep from Toy Story (their mom and dad went as Bo Peep and Woody) Keith was Obi-Wan Kenobi, Adam was Batman, Nathan was a penguin (Wheezy from Toy Story 2 perhaps?) and Grandma and Grandpa were Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls :)

I just love the huge cheesey grin on Kenzie's face haha!

Micah and I dressed up with some of the cousins and Uncle Craig as the characters from Clue. I was Miss Scarlet, David was Professor Plum, Natalie was Ms. White, Tanya was Mrs. Peacock, Craig was Mr. Green and Micah was Col. Mustard. (he even grew out his beard to have the "chops" look haha!)

And of course we each had our weapon ;)

Michelle was a Sky Dancer, remember those?

Jared and Jenna went as Princess Lolly and Mr. Mint from "Candyland."

And the best news of all: They're ENGAGED!!!

We're SO excited for Jenna to become part of the family. McKenzie keeps saying, "They gonna get maehweed in the tiiiiimple with a pretty dress!" Jenna has been a favorite of Kenzie's since we went to the fish farm back in June.

Then of course we went trick-or-treating that night in our neighborhood. We almost didn't go at all because it was raining SO hard, and we figured she had gotten enough candy from Micah's work the other day. But as luck would have it, the rain stopped about 7:00 so we hurried and went down the block and back.

While walking up the sidewalk to the very first house, Kenzie kept saying "trick-or-treat!" but she got nervous as soon as Ann answered the door. She did say thank you though, so that was fine. At least she's polite! ;)

Ann gave out cans of soda and Kenzie was having a hard time carrying it, but wouldn't let Micah take it out of her bucket. "No it's MINE! MY JUICE!" hahaha. Eventually we distracted her long enough with someone's ghost hanging on the porch that Micah took it out and put it in his pocket for later. She didn't even notice haha!

By the time we'd gone to a few more houses Kenzie was warming up to this idea of random people giving her candy. In fact, at one house I started chatting with the mom and while we were talking, Kenzie kept taking handfuls and candy from the basket while she and I were distracted and saying, "Thank you!" each time. It was pretty funny. At a few houses (where she recognized the people at the door) she would roar when they asked if she was a lion. haha!

Oh- and Jessica, if you're reading this, all day Sunday and Monday Kenzie kept looking out the window to try and see "the phantom" again because she was SO excited to see Nate in his costume. She has a crazy obsession with the Phantom of the Opera...

McKenzie definitely had a great time. She's constantly asking us for candy and she doesn't understand why she can't have any at 9 in the morning. (We never buy candy or treats besides cookies so she's not used to having so much temptation in the house haha) But usually after lunch or dinner I'll give her a dum-dum sucker (those are her favorites) and she's satisfied. I'm sure we'll have to go through the same thing once Christmas comes around!

Is it just me or does Micah look like House with his facial hair?

The first year we took Cade trick-or-treating, we let him sit at the table the next morning with all his candy and eat it ALL. He ended up throwing most of it away after taking one sample lick because he was getting sick of it but didn't want to admit it. Hmmm... maybe we should do that again.

It's so fun to take kids trick-or-treating! Glad she's finally old enough!

This post just makes me happy. I'm glad Kenzie loves The Phantom of the Opera as much as me, I just wish I could take credit for introducing her to it, alas I cannot. Loved seeing you guys on Halloween (and the week before) :)

That's so cute, she didn't want you to steal her spotlight by singing with her. Sad I couldn't come!!! I missed you guys too!!!
