We took McKenzie to the ophtalmologist on the 3rd and the diagnosis- glasses for my sweet little girl. He said she doesn't need a patch, but we have another appointment in 6 weeks to check and make sure this is the right way to go.
So here's what was going on- she is farsided in both eyes with astigmatism as well (which is what I have). Because her right eye wasn't "as bad" as her left, her brain was basically shutting off her left eye to focus more on using her right which causes her left eye to drift to the middle. If left untreated she would eventually lose vision in her left eye. The glasses will ease the stress on her eyes and it shouldn't drift anymore. The only problem is that once she is wearing her glasses all the time we'll see her eye drift more when she isn't wearing her glasses. (That's where Micah and I think the patch would help strengthen her left eye so that won't be an issue, but we're not doctors so what do we know? haha) I guess we'll see at the 6 week appointment if we are right.
It took a week for them to come in and we got the call that we could pick up her glasses this morning. She's only worn them for about an hour so far today (since it is naptime right now) and she's doing ok with them. The doc said to restrain her arms for a few minutes if she tries to pull them off so we've had to do that a few times, but she's doing a little better than I expected. Hopefully she realizes that they are helping her and she'll stop trying to pull them off.

She looks so big with those glasses! I hope she keeps them on ;-}
Don't get discouraged if she hates them. Cade hated his for a while. Then he realized he could see with them and wanted to wear them... then he hates them again and doesn't want to wear them anymore... wait a minute. Maybe McKenzie will like hers. She sure is cute! And looks so big!
Cute girl, she's growing up!
Adorable! Hope things get figured out. I hate it when I feel one way and the Dr. feels another! I'm telling you though...there's something to be said about mothers intuition! (Did I spell that right?)
McKenzie looks adorable in her little glasses! Good luck! My friend has a son that has to wear hearing aids in both ears, and when he was younger he would pull them out and throw them on the floor when he was mad, lol. Everything will work out for the best I am sure :)
She looks darling in her new glasses! I'm happy both of you took her in to be tested.
So ask the Dr. what the harm is by having her wear a patch. I cannot imagine that her eye would suddenly get worse! It makes great sense that her weaker eye would be forced to work harder and that her brain would resist putting all its attention on the other eye. Just because one Dr said it needs to that way does not make that decision right. Get another opinion! You are more right than you give yourself credit for.
