Here she is!!!

She has finally arrived! McKenzie Lynne Bate was born on July 30th at 2:46 am. She was 7 lbs, 7 oz, and 19 inches long.

The original plan was to go in on Wednesday morning and be induced, but on Monday night we received a phone call from the hospital and they asked if we'd like to go in Tuesday morning instead! We were so excited- and then we realized "holy cow, that's tomorrow!" So we ran to the store to grab some last minute items and called it a night. We went to the hospital at 6 am and they started the meds at around 8. I was given the "gel" twice because I still wasn't dialated at all, and each treatment took 6 hours to be fully effective. Even though I was technically in labor and having lots of contractions from the first treatment, I wouldn't consider them hard enough to count that first 6 hours when I say how long I was in labor.

Once they gave me the second round- that's another story! The contractions became much more intense within 2 or 3 minutes of being given the second dose of gel, and they said I was able to receive an epidural at this point if I would like one- so I did. Can I just let everyone out there who has not experienced an epidural know, IT IS THE BEST THING IN THE ENTIRE WORLD AND I LOVE WHOEVER INVENTED IT!!!! The next 12 hours (which is how long I'll say labor was) were a breeze! I was fully dialated at about 2 am and the doctor said he'd like to see how far McKenzie could work her way down the birth canal by herself before he wanted me to push. So at about 2:30 I let him know that I was ready- cause I thought for sure she was going to just jump out by herself by the way it felt... The nurse did the countdown from ten and had me breathe and push 4 times, and that was it!!

Our wonderful little girl was cleaned up and handed to me and I immediately knew that "love-at-first-sight" could not even begin to describe how I felt. I just want to thank my father in heaven for blessing Micah and I with such a wonderful baby and for allowing me to have an easy pregnancy, labor and delivery. I know that I am extremely lucky because there are so many people out there who have such hard times with them.

This blanket was made by McKenzie's Great-Great-Grandmother! Every grandchild in my family has been brought home from the hospital in this blanket.

This made us laugh so hard! Doesn't she look like a boxer that just finished a fight with her little gloves and those pink straps on her shoulders? Hahahaha...

Kenzie: “His name is Elvin. Haha! That’s a weird name!”

Me: “A diamond.”
Kenzie: “A diamond in the rough?”

Micah: “Kenzie, how did your cheeks get so soft?”
Kenzie: “How did yours get so scratchy?”

Eating M&Ms (or M-uh-Ms as she calls them) Kenzie and I got into an argument over what letter is printed on them. She is confident that they are all Es and showed me by turning them all to look like a capital “E.” What a clever and silly girl!

Me: “Kenzie, did you have fun being a witch for Halloween yesterday?”
Kenzie: “Yeah, but I’m not a witch today. I’m an astronaut. See my astronaut dress?” (points to jammies)

Kenzie: “Where did Daddy go?”
Me: “The bank to deposit some money.”
Kenzie: “Oh, like a piggy bank?”

“When I was a baby, April stole me away. Then she turned into a dragon and used her fire breath in her mouth and I died. Then I turned into a mermaid and Papa saved me. What has April done to me?!”

Micah: “Do you want Minnie Mouse pancakes for breakfast?”
Kenzie: “No, I’m gonna have giraffe scrabble eggs.”

Kenzie: “Don’t say fool, Mommy!”
Micah: “What does fool mean?”
Kenzie: “It means I have to wear a tie.”

Kenzie: “What is Mommy’s favorite?”
Micah: “Okra.”
Kenzie: “Mommy’s favorite is oh-crap?”

Me: “We get to go see the baby tomorrow and the doctor will tell us if it is a boy or a girl. What do you think it is?”
Kenzie: “It’s a girl.”
Me: “But what if Daddy thinks it is a boy? Who do you think will be right?”
Kenzie: “The doctor.”
(I almost peed my pants laughing at that one)

While taking a bath, I told her to hold still so I could wash her hair. She replied, “Read my lips- forget it!”

“Remember what Heavenly Father said- don’t jump in the shower or you’ll fall and get hurt.”

“I want to watch Toy Story with the train and ‘money money money!’ Then we’ll take a nap and when we wake up we’ll watch Psych! Sound good, Mommy?”

Micah: “Hey stinky-pants, get over here so I can change you.”
Kenzie: “My name is not stinky-pants! My name is McKenzie Bate!”

“What rhymes with F? Umbrella!”

“You’re welcome, lady.”

Sept 2011

Kenzie was jumping on the couch when I heard a loud thud followed by silence.
Me: “Are you ok?”
Kenzie: “I’m ok! I just had a great fall.”

‘Billie Jean’ came on the radio and Kenzie loudly proclaimed, “It’s Miksal Jacket!”

Kenzie: “Mommy, can I watch Psycho?”
Me: “You mean Psych?”
Kenzie: “Yeah!!”

Kenzie: “Where is my Sleeping Beauty doll?”
Me: “Is she in your toybox?”
Kenzie: “No. Looks like I have a mystery to solve!”

“Mommy, you can’t come in my room because there are dangerous toys that will attack you. So go away.”

During potty training we would periodically ask her if her panties were dry. One night Micah asked and she said, “Don’t worry about it, Daddy. I’m doing wonderful.”

Kenzie: “I can’t find my brave son!”
Me: “Who is your brave son?”
Kenzie: “My blue t-rex…..AH! My brave son will destroy me!”

Kenzie: “I don’t like this yogurt. It’s just so yucky!”

(as Micah is leaving for work) “Thanks for coming to my house, Daddy! See you later!”

Kenzie: “Daddy, where are we going?”
Micah: “To the zoo to drop you off.”
Kenzie: “Yay the zoo!.....What is dropping off mean?”

“Mommy, hold my child. She’s making me so nervous!”

“The sun is on! It’s daytime!”

No matter what it is, if it is broken Kenzie will say, “This needs batteries.”

Me: “Kenzie, you need to go to sleep.”
Kenzie: “But that is a bad idea.”
Me: “Well, then what would be a good idea?”
Kenzie: “Jumping on the bed!”

“Mommy I had a dream. Cade was a robot, Ali was a princess and I was evil Star Wars. You were a dragon with a color sword.”

(one morning during breakfast)
“I like Crappin’ Crunch. There was a monster in my dream with a boat. Mommy! Do you see that monkey in the tree? You need to tell him to stop. Pascal stuck out his tongue in Eugene’s ear! It was slippery and then the bad lady wasn’t nice.”

Me: “McKenzie Lynne! Get over here right now!! 1…2…3!”
Kenzie: (running to me) “Wow Mommy! Good counting! I’m so proud of you!”

“I’m not spunky, I’m McKenzie!”

Kenzie: “Mommy, what’s that?”
Me: “It’s a comb for my hair.”
Kenzie: “No, I think it’s a dinglehopper.”
Me: “What kind of cereal do you want?”
Kenzie: “Umm… how ‘bout Crappin’ Crunch?”

Micah: “Quit mining for gold.”
Kenzie: “It’s not gold, it’s boogers!”

(Micah has a cookie on a plate and Kenzie starts singing to him)
“I’m so glad when daddy comes home, glad as I can be…” (when the song gets to the part) “wrap my arms around his neck, hug him tight like this!” (She reaches out for a hug. As soon as Micah lifts his arms to hug her back, she grabs his cookie and runs away laughing, not even finishing the song.)

“There’s a bear in the kitchen making a lot of noise! I will fight him with my sword and protect you… Oh, and don’t worry Mommy, he’s only pretend.”

Kenzie: “Ow! Ow! Ow!”
Micah: “What’s wrong?”
Kenzie: “An ant is squishing me!”

“Well when I was a young little girl…”

“Rapunzel Rapunzel, let down your hair! Not by the hair on my chinny chin chin!”

(mad because the sun is in her eyes)
“AAAHHH!! Stop sun! You’re making me nervous!”

Me: “How did you get to be so sweet?”
Kenzie: “When I was a little girl, I ate a strawberry.”

(Getting ready for bed) “I’m tired like Snow White. Daddy, you be the prince and wake me up in the morning. Mommy, you’re the witch.”

Me: “Let’s play the quiet game.”
Kenzie: “Ok! …umm… what’s quiet?”
Me: “My point exactly…”

Reading an animal book I asked her what prairie dogs were. “Primary dogs!”

(Driving in the canyon)
Kenzie: “Where’s the deers?”
Me: “Probably in the trees.”
Kenzie: “Oh. They’re looking for pizza to eat.”

Micah: “Can you show me a magic trick? Make a bite of your dinner disappear.”
Kenzie: “Ok! (waves hands) Bibbity Bobbity Boo! You’re a princess!”

“Daddy put me down! I want to run around like a crazy person!”

April 2011

(While Micah chased her around the house she ran to me. When I picked her up she said, “Shoo, Mommy! That was close!”

“Mommy, I’m pretty sure I know where our house is… umm… where is it?”

(While cleaning up a #2 potty accident) “Mommy, that’s not chocolate!”

“I’m going to college in a minute. I’ll see you later.”

Me: “Kenzie, are you going to marry a prince someday?”
Kenzie: “Nope! I’m going to marry the Phantom!”

Me: “Kenzie, you make me so happy!”
Kenzie: “Hahaha! You make me laugh!”

March 2011

Instead of saying, “I pooped in my panties” (which she knew wouldn’t make me happy…) Kenzie said, “SHOO-EE!! I stink like a skunk!”

Kenzie: “Ow Mommy! My bum got hurt!”
Me: Oh, I’m sorry. What happened?”
Kenzie: (completely serious) “A lion came and ate it!”

“Mommy watch out! That raccoon will sneak on you and trick you!”

(while I was cooking dinner) Me: “Micah, will you keep an eye on Kenzie in case she needs to go potty?”
Kenzie: “No! I don’t want an eye on me!”

Me: “Kenzie, did you have a good day?”
Kenzie: “Yeah, Mommy. It was lovely.”

Kenzie: “Mommy, if you eat all your dinner, Papa will come and buy you a present!”

Kenzie: “Mommy, you like Yucky Charms?”
Me: “It’s LUCKY Charms. (sounding out) L-L-L-Lucky Charms.”
Kenzie: “You like L-L-L-Yucky Charms?”

When I was feeling sick Kenzie said, “Where is your mommy to take care of you?” and “It’s ok Mommy. There aren’t any monsters in the bathroom.”

Me: “What’s so funny?”
Kenzie: “I have a secret.”
Me: “Oh, what is it?”
Kenzie: “hehehe… come closer… (whispers) I don’t know what my secret is!”

“No I’m not angry! I’m just ornery!”

Kenzie: “What’s this on my elephant?”
Me: “It’s a tusk.”
Kenzie: “No, I think it’s a mustache.”

“I don’t want chickle soup!!!”

A songwriter in the making: (singing thru tears after we put her to bed) “Twinkle twinkle little star. I can’t build a tower anymore. Mommy and Daddy said it’s too late. But I don’t want to go to sleep. Twinkle twinkle little star. I don’t want to go to bed.”

Kenzie: “Mommy can I watch a show?”
Me: No
Kenzie: “Um… How about yes?”

Kenzie: “What do bees do?”
Me: “They make honey.”
Kenzie: “Oh. That makes sense.”

Trying to do pushups- “Oh no! I can’t get strong!”

While washing dishes I heard, “Mommy, don’t yell! I’m going to paint the table!”

“I’m like Braveheart (Care Bear) I’m not afraid!”

“You’re a pal!”

Me: “Kenzie stop kicking me. It isn’t very nice.”
Kenzie: “Oh, I’m sorry…. Please can I kick you?”

(after helping her wipe her nose) “Mommy, this is my favorite tissue.”

After throwing a nerf ball at my head, Kenzie shook her finger at me and scolded, “Don’t throw the ball mommy!”

(reading a book) “look Mommy, an ice cream cone. You try it?” (I pretend to eat some) “No Mommy, like this!” (she licks the book)

After putting sour cream in her hair- “Oh no! My hair is broken!”

“Kenzie what is that?” “A flamingo! Haha I’m so smart!”

Kenzie; “Knock knock!”
Micah: “Who’s there?”
Kenzie: “Um… It’s not me!”

(fake phone conversation)
“Hi Papa, this is Kenzie. Daddy ride a bike to a garbage and brush his teeth. Mommy change a diaper. I have juice. Uh, I miss you. Bye!”

(Sitting on the couch reading stories) “I think I’ll go home now.” (walked to her room and shut the door.)

When Kenzie said she wanted to watch the “robot movie” I thought she meant Wall-E. She screamed, “No this one!” and handed me Iron Man 2

Sept 2010

Me: “Are you done with your yogurt? You’re making a mess.”
“I’m not make a mess. I’m painting the table.”
“..oh…well what are you painting?”
“an elephant!”

Me: “Kenzie, that is daddy’s brush. Please put it back.”
(running away laughing) “no! It’s mine now!”

(as I was putting putty on the sheet rock in the bathroom) “Mommy? You painting clouds?!”

Me: “Hey! I was sitting there.”
“Haha! I stole your spot!”

(McKenzie having a pretend conversation with my dad on the phone) “Hi Papa. Umm… this is Cassie. How ya doin? Umm… I’m fine…This is Cassie!”

“Kenzie, what are you doing with your ducks?”
“They getting married.”

“Oh my….that’s too bad.”

“Thank you much!”

“No- you can’t come in!” (slamming her door on my face)

August 2010

(after finding Kenzie pouring Micah’s aftershave on herself and asking the usual “What are you DOING?!”) “I smell GOOOOOOOOOD.”

“Thank you, thank you, Sam-I-Am”

“Kenzie how is your ravioli?”
“NO! It’s SKETTY!”
“oh… how is your spaghetti?”
“yummy.”
